While it was rumoured the gorgeous Mary Elizabeth Winstead was set for the role of Sharon Carter in Marvel’s Phase II superhero sequel, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, it appears the studios eyes have been turned elsewhere. The return of Chris Evans’ shield-throwing Avenger has now found its female lead in the equally stunning form of REVENGE star Emily VanCamp, who seems to have been a late bloomer in impressing, having not appeared on their casting list previously.
The character is expected to be vying for the affections of Steve Rogers, as he does battle with villain Crossbones and his defrosted former friend-turned-cold commando, Bucky Barnes. Sharon Carter is (awkwardly) the niece of Rodgers’ 1940s love-interest Peggy (played by Hayley Atwell in THE FIRST AVENGER), before his time-travelling escapades saw him team up with Nick Fury’s super-powered squad.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will co-star Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson and Toby Jones in the action adventure slated for the 4th April 2014. Anthony and Joe Russo will direct.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
