THN Presents: Geek Cubed, A New Podcast

The Hollywood Booze is about to post its 46th episode tomorrow, and while the ‘Booze’ will always be a part of THN, we’re expanding our podcast network to include a brand new series called Geek Cubed. The podcast is the creation of THN contributor Matt Dennis, and mates Mikey O’Neill & James Docherty, and together they will now be broadcasting on The Hollywood News Podcast Network every other Thursday.

The trio have a back catalogue of their pre-THN episodes over here, so make sure you subscribe to the feed to keep up to date with all of the fun and geek-e-ness!

In this episode, prepare for laughs aplenty as the Cubes do battle over the sensitive subject of what’s the best movie-musical ever made in this week’s Film Fight (a clue: it’s not Mamma Mia). There’s also much debate over the subject of the Oscars, whilst elsewhere Mikey unveils his latest potential chart-topper in the form of a song about Taken 2. Plus we’ve also got Half-Arsed Reviews, Comic Book Club, and a very drunk Elmo! That’s a whole entertaining hour of your life set out for you right there!

Hit the boys up via Facebook & Twitter (@G3podcast), and remember to email us with any thoughts/reservations you might have via the usual address (g3podcast@hotmail.com). And remember to head back to THN in a fortnight for more Geek Cubed Podcasty goodness!

Meet the Cubes:

Mikey O’Neill killed a guy once. Probably. We never checked if the guy was still breathing or not, we were too busy pegging it. But hiding out from the LAPD has been a major boom for Mikey, whose body of professional work has grown considerably these past few years! As well as his work presenting both the GEEK CUBED Podcast and the trio’s previous student radio show FOUR GEEKS AND A GUITAR, Mikey also moonlights as an actor and stand-up comedian. In Summer 2012, he wrote & directed CUFFED, a comedy play, which ran for two very successful days at London’s White Bear Theatre (seriously, it was really good apparently).

James Docherty is a gentleman and a scholar. He also loves violent movies and videogames that involve people’s heads getting blown off with lots of brain and skull splatting everywhere! Not only is James a co-presenter of both FOUR GEEKS AND A GUITAR and GEEK CUBED, but he’s also an actor and theatre director, whose body of work includes productions at the Camden Fringe Festival. He’s also a regular Theatre Critic for The London Aisle, a job he probably does to make him appear more cultured then the average video game nerd!

Favourite Movies: JURASSIC PARK, FIGHT CLUB, REC, and the original STAR WARS trilogy.

Favourite TV: ADVENTURE TIME, BLACKADDER, and THE SIMPSONS.

Favourite Video Games: THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM, RED DEAD REMPTION, PAC-MAN, and DEAD SPACE 2.

Matt Dennis does a pretty mean Gollum impression. He also presents GEEK CUBED, having previously worked alongside James Docherty and Mikey O’Neill on FOUR GEEKS & A GUITAR for SMUC Radio. An aspiring journalist and broadcaster, Matt’s been a regular scribe for THN since 2012, in which time he’s interviewed movie folk such as producer Rick McCallum and actors Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Cameron Diaz, & Cuba Gooding Jr. He’s previously guest presented The Hollywood Booze Podcast for THN, as well as working as an occasional guest critic for CryteriaOnline.com. When he grows up, he wants to be either an astronaut or a Thunderbird!

Paul has been writing for film websites for over ten years. The Hollywood News was born out of love for film and his frustration at not being a very good filmmaker himself. Those who cannot do, write about – or so they say. Aside from the site, Paul has directed a music video (badly), has one credit to his name on the IMDb, enjoys running, driving (now that he has finally passed his test at the age of 33), and of course going to the movies.
