I know. Another vampire movie, right? In what is rapidly becoming an overused sub-genre thanks in large part to the overwhelming popularity of the teen-targeted TWILIGHT series, vampire films are showing no signs of dying out in the near future.
However, when an auteur like writer-director Jim Jarmusch arrives on the scene with his own take on bloodsuckers-in-love, we can’t help but sit up and take notice.
The recently released first image from the director’s upcoming film, ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE, is generating a lot of Internet chatter. Stars Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston reportedly play lovers named Adam and Eve whose romance has survived through the centuries. The image has a sexy-cool vampiric feel a la THE LOST BOYS — check out those sunglasses and long manes!
The film, which also stars Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt and Anton Yelchin, is scheduled for a 2013 release, although an official date has not been given. It’s rumoured the film may premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival.
The stellar cast and the fact that Jarmusch penned the screenplay himself is reason enough to excite film fans. It’s vampires for grown ups!
