Duncan Jones To Direct ‘Warcraft’ Film

Warcraft Duncan JonesDuncan Jones, who has made a name for himself and no longer has to be referred to as the son of a certain someone, is gearing up and logging on to direct an adaptation of WARCRAFT. The Blizzard video game of the same name, expanded into further games such as the Massively Multiplayer Online Role=Playing Game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft, as well as a series of novels set in the same universe. A film adaptation has been long rumoured with names such as Sam Raimi attached at one point or another.

Duncan Jones looks to be the final choice for the film that will be produced by Legendary Pictures producers Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, and Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment producers Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Charles Leavitt, the writer of THE MIGHTY, K-PAX, and BLOOD DIAMOND will script the fantasy epic, which is aiming to start production by the end of the year for a 2015 release date.

Jones has certainly impressed me with his work on the incredible MOON and the enjoyable SOURCE CODE, so I can’t wait to see him handle a fantasy epic.Especially one that is going to give him a mammoth budget to work from, as his previous films cost $1 million and $35 million respectively. Having never played the games I have no idea what to expect, but hopefully we’ll see action, magic, and some bizarre characters. Maybe even Mr. T will show up like he did in those TV adverts for the games.
