You might know him better as Filch from the HARRY POTTER films, with his cat Mrs Norris, but we’re delighted to hear that David Bradley will play the first Doctor, William Hartnell, in a special on the BBC called An Adventure In Time & Space.

The Drama will tell the creation of beginning of the now cult-classic series Doctor Who, that’s been running since 23rd November, 1963. The script has been written by Mark Gatiss, who’s been involved since the revival in 2005 and Bradley had this to say about being chosen:

“I first heard about this role from Mark while watching the Diamond Jubilee flotilla from the roof of the National Theatre,” said Bradley, who played the character of Solomon in 2012 episode Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

“When he asked if I would interested, I almost bit his hand off! Mark has written such a wonderful script not only about the birth of a cultural phenomenon, but a moment in television’s history. William Hartnell was one of the finest character actors of our time and as a fan I want to make sure that I do him justice. I’m so looking forward to getting started.”

Also cast are Call The Midwife‘s Jessica Raine who is set to play producer Verity Lambert and Brian Cox, who’ll play head of BBC Drama at the time, Sydney Newman, who was credited with helping it to get started. Mark Gatiss will also act as a executive producer of the one-off drama, alongside current head honcho Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner.

We can’t wait to see what they have planned for later this year, Moffat also promises that Doctor Who will take over television!
