Dean Koontz Adaptation ‘Odd Thomas’ Runs Into Significant Problems

original

A big-screen version in the first of famed horror author Dean Koontz’ ODD THOMAS series of novels finished shooting well over a year ago now. Co-written and directed by THE MUMMY and VAN HELSING’s Stephen Sommers, ODD THOMAS is led by Anton Yelchin as the short-order cook title character with psychic-like abilities, with the first film (of a hoped franchise) seeing him encounter and investigate a mysterious man with a link to a number of unsolved murders. The film also features Willem Dafoe, Patton Oswalt and Addison Timlin.

It was expected the thriller would appear sometime in 2012 but with nothing forthcoming on the project, fans have been left wondering what exactly has happened. Well, it appears legal wrangling’s have prevented the film’s release, with more problems set to delay it even further. Producers have now filed lawsuits on a number of individuals who promised to finance the distribution and marketing of the supernatural story, and have so far failed to come up with the goods.

Sadly, for those eager for ODD THOMAS’ realised on the big-screen, it doesn’t appear if it’s going to be anytime soon. With a director like Sommers at the helm, do we really want to see that anywhere? As always, we’d love to know your thoughts.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Despite your jab at Sommers, the movie actually has a lot of positive buzz from those who were lucky enough to see it.
