The upcoming EVIL DEAD remake has recently undergone it’s rating screening by the MPAA and director Fede Alvarez was proud to proclaim his retread of Sam Raimi’s cult classic received an NC-17, which is often a final nail in the coffin for most films in the US. It’s no surprise considering some of the graphic footage witnessed in both the red-band trailer and it’s ‘weaker’ counterpart.
However, when asked about the film receiving an its controversial rating, Alvarez confirmed:
Was proud of scoring a NC-17 when submitted! But we had to cut stuff out to get an R and get the film into theatres.
Whatever is going to be cut for the big-screen is surely going to make a gruesome unrated DVD and Blu-ray release later in the year, all the more exciting.
EVIL DEAD will possess cinemas from the 12th April and will star Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore and Jessica Lucas. Original lead Bruce Campbell co-produces with frequent collaborators Raimi and Robert Tapert. Check out this blood-red variant banner recently showcased by the trio.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
