Marvel Studios’ unique superhero project GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has a number actors in contention for the lead Star Lord, in the film to be co-written and directed by SLITHER and SUPER’s James Gunn. Jim Sturgess, Joel Edgerton and Eddie Redmayne have all been known to audition for the role, although we’ve yet to hear anything concrete from the studio.
Now word is coming out that Marvel are beginning to finally branch out to fill the supporting roles, some of which are expected to be digitally created and/or motion-captured, and there are few surprises at just who they may be eying. Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are both being asked about their availability, with some suggesting it will be for the role of loud-mouthed rodent Rocket Raccoon.
There is also rumours Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet are also on the long list for the character of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will shoot this summer in London and will be released on 1st August 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
