Diesel Drenched In Latest ‘Riddick’ Still

Despite a very bloated sequel, I’m extremely excited to see Vin Diesel’s return as vicious serial-killing antihero Richard B. Riddick. David Twohy’s PITCH BLACK was one of the most original science-fiction efforts of recent times, with a genius concept that led the low-budget film to cult hit status. Spending $100 million-plus on the follow-up, THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, was never going to work and subsequently the film made a loss, leaving the chance of more RIDDICK adventures, doubtful.

Thankfully, Twohy and Diesel love the character enough to bring him back and in doing so struck a deal with financiers for threequel, RIDDICK. It’s understood neither have taken a wage and both will only take a percentage once the film is in profit.

This time, RIDDICK crash lands on a sun-scorched planet, and finds himself up against an alien race of vicious predators. In order to escape, he activates an emergency beacon alerting two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary who can make a killing in capturing the ruthless convict, while the other is captained by a man from Riddick’s past.

Check out this latest still from the film co-starring Dave Bautista, Katee Sackhoff, Karl Urban, Jordi Mollà, Keri Hilson, Bokeem Woodbine, and is expected 6th September.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
