HOUSE OF LIES: SEASON ONE (DVD/Blu-ray) – creator Matthew Carnahan
Management consultant focused HOUSE OF LIES offers its first season on DVD and Blu-ray this week. Starring Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell et al. it’s a tongue-in-cheek look into a high-powered world has a cleverness, debauched sense of humour and an excellent central performance from Cheadle, and is well worth a look.
A subversive, scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm. Marty, a highly successful, cutthroat consultant is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want.
THE SWEENEY (DVD/Blu-ray) – dir. Nick Love
Well-respected Ray Winstone teams up with Ben Drew (Plan B to the kids) for a rehash/reimagining/regurgitation of 1970s cop-show THE SWEENEY. Somewhat missing the charm of the original series our man Matt could find absolutely nothing to commend THE SWEENEY for. Fans of Nick Love will lap it up though.
A hardened detective drama set in the Flying Squad of London’s Metropolitan police. Based on the ’70s UK TV show.
THE CAMPAIGN (DVD/Blu-ray) – dir. Jay Roach
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis team up for THE CAMPAIGN which unfortunately fails to live up to its expectations and is as dull as an actual election campaign. That being said if camp, nervous men are your thing, you’ll love Marty Huggins!
In order to gain influence over their North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to oust long-term congressman Cam Brady by putting up a rival candidate. Their man: naive Marty Huggins, director of the local Tourism Center.
THE INBETWEENERS USA: SEASON ONE (DVD) – creators Damon Beesley, Iain Morris
MTVs failed attempt to rekindle the ‘magic’ of Channel 4’s THE INBETWEENERS arrives in a neat little package for you to take home and enjoy. Sadly attempting to remake original episodes and a reliance on British-humour has left another rework floundering in the Atlantic.
Four high school friends are not cool or popular, but not total dorks, either.
SOKA AFRIKA (DVD) – dir. Suridh Hassan
Looking at the plight of youth footballers in Africa, SOKA AFRIKA will shock viewers. Our recommendation is to watch it, share it and help spread the word.
Soka Afrika is a feature length documentary film celebrating African football in the run up to World Cup 2010.
THAT’S MY BOY (DVD/Blu-ray) – dir. Sean Anders
Adam Sandler starring THAT’S MY BOY rounds off a week of mishits with spectacularly awful aplomb. As funny as falling down the stairs THAT’S MY BOY is one of the most offensive, unfunny and puerile films anybody will ever make. Need we say more…
While in his teens, Donny fathered a son, Todd, and raised him as a single parent up until Todd’s 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd’s world comes crashing down when Donny resurfaces just before Todd’s wedding.
