Two terrific actors from my all-time favourite series DEADWOOD, appear together again in domestic comic-drama, THE PLAYROOM. Molly Parker and John Hawkes (fresh from his acclaimed performance in THE SESSIONS) star in the suburbs-set story of the Cantwell family and their struggle to find their way in a rapidly changing world during the 1970s. Centred on teenage daughter Maggie (newcomer Olivia Harris) as the big sister and surrogate mother, who uses her own vulnerability to mask the hard-drinking exploits of her parents from her younger siblings.
Check out this new trailer, which feels like much the same tone as Ang Lee’s acclaimed effort, THE ICE STORM, for the film directed by Julia Dyer and released 8th February in the US, but is still awaiting a release here in the UK.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
