Two very interesting films have finally gotten release dates for later this year. Robert Rodriguez already has SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR scheduled for October, but a month prior to that, his sequel to 2010’s mexploitation film MACHETE, MACHETE KILLS, will be released on 13th September in the US. The film follows the titular Machete (Danny Trejo) as he battles through Mexico to stop an arms dealer for launching a weapon into space. It sounds bonkers, and I hope they can improve on the old school, gritty vibe that the first one sadly ended up lacking.
GRAVITY is Alfonso Cuaron’s first film for roughly 7 years since the beautiful CHILDREN OF MEN. Having had casting problems delay the production on the film, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney finally signed up to star as the two astronauts fighting to come home after their space shuttle is sent drifting through space by a collision with debris. It’s supposed to be stunningly beautiful, and it’s two interesting actors to take on the roles. If it is anywhere near as good as CHILDREN OF MEN, it will be amazing. GRAVITY is scheduled for 4th October in the US. Both films are yet to receive a UK release date.
MACHETE KILLS is directed by Robert Rodriguez. It stars Danny Trejo, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba. It is scheduled for a US release on 13th September 2013 with a UK release date still unknown.
