THN are pleased to share the news that renowned independent distributor Odyssey DVD is re-launching in the UK and returns with a fantastic slate of cult and classic films. Including box office hits and all-star casts, the first six films are GREY OWL, GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK, ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE, DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY and JULIA, released through September to October.
Up first is the still astonishingly-impressive GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS (1992), with the all-star cast of Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, and Alec Baldwin. The acclaimed film is based upon David Mamet’s award-winning and follows a group of desperate real estate agents in Chicago. Think of it as a low-key MARGIN CALL or WOLF OF WALL STREET of its day. When a hotshot executive (Alec Baldwin) from the head office arrives and proposes a vicious sales competition, in which the losers are fired, the office heats up, tension grows and people fight for their existence. It’s amazing and everyone is on form including a powerhouse performance from Pacino. Buy it here.
JULIA (1977) was nominated for 11 Academy awards and is a stunning drama about friendship and courage starring Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave, with direction by Fred Zinneman – FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. It’s the early 1930’s and playwright Lillian Hellman travels to Vienna to see her childhood friend Julia, who’s a committed anti-fascist but injured during a demonstration. With a growing sense of awareness of the merging threat of the Nazi’s, Lillian is persuaded to smuggle money into Germany, which in turn leads her to get involved with a dangerous resistance operation. It’s intense stuff, with great performances from all! Preorder here.
They also have ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE, the Golden Globe nominated crime drama that stars Billy Green Bush and Robert Blake as John Wintergreen, a clever motorcycle cop from Arizona who wants to be a detective.
Next is DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK starring Henry Fonda, Claudette Cobert and this was legendary director John Ford’s first colour film and it was a box-office hit in 1939. To add to this, there is DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY starring Peter Fonda as a reckless NASCAR hopeful and features a whole host of brilliant stunt-work.
