We’ve all been waiting with much anticipation and trepidation regarding any news and/or confirmation on Disney’s STAR WARS: EPISODE VII project, slated for summer 2015. Very little has come out recently, after the House Of Mouse acquired all of Lucasfilm including the rights to the epic, blockbusting space saga. Now we can confirm, not only will we have the Michael Arndt scripted and expected Matthew Vaughn directed sequel to look forward to in the future, but MAN OF STEEL and 300 director Zack Snyder is secretly working on a separate, standalone STAR WARS project.

Snyder’s visually-stunning directing style would seem a perfect fit for the iconic franchise and it appears his film will centre on a band of Jedi Knights on a revenge-fueled mission. It’s rumoured to be inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s classic SEVEN SAMURAI, which itself was reinvented into star-studded western THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.

No casting or release has been announced but these are exciting times for STAR WARS fanatics! Thoughts?!

Snyder’s representatives has since released a statement to refute the rumours. Check it out below:

While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, MAN OF STEEL and 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
