One of the biggest criticisms regarding DIE HARD sequel, LIVE FREE AND DIE HARD, was that it was rated PG-13 (or 12 in the UK) which amongst other things kept John McClane from uttering his signature catchphrase, Yippee Ki-Yay Motherfucker, with the last part being muffled by a gun shot. This time however it seems that the producers are going all out and are actually allowing the upcoming fifth film in the franchise, A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, to be rated R (usually 15 or 18 in the UK). It is still not official, but a source within Fox claims that it looks increasingly likely.
Of course this doesn’t tell us anything about the quality of the film, but at least we’ll get tons of swearing and violence (probably). I thought the fourth one was really good, although you could argue that Bruce Willis was less John McClane and more superhuman badass, but that didn’t stop it from being a fun action film. As long as I get a similar result from the fifth installment, I’ll be a happy guy, and with a little added hard language it’ll hopefully end up pretty badass. We’ll let you know when it is made official right here on THN.
A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD is directed by John Moore. It stars Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Cole Hauser and Amaury Nolasco. It is scheduled for a release in both the UK and US on 14th February 2013.
