It was never really in question that Disney is hugely interested in continuing their big money making franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. Despite a lukewarm reception, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN – ON STRANGER TIDES made over $1 billion in the box office alone and that kind of money is hard to ignore. Now it’s been reported that Disney have hired Jeff Nathanson (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and erm…a lot of Brett Ratner films) to write the sequel. Terry Rossio, who to date has either written or co-written every installment in the franchise, reportedly wrote a draft a while back but it is unclear whether Nathanson will re-write that or start from scratch.
Johnny Depp has previously said that as long as the story was good he’d be up for making another one, but he is yet to officially sign on. I didn’t hate ON STRANGER TIDES as many others did, I actually found it quite enjoyable and definitely better than the muddled AT WORLD’S END. I don’t look forward with eager excitement to the next part of the franchise, but at the same time I’m not against another outing for Jack Sparrow either plus my fingers are crossed that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly will stay the hell away again though.

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.

I enjoyed all the Pirate movies. I don’t understand how anyone could hate them they are entertaining even if only for the scenery and one liners.
I will always look forward to more…it will be interesting to see what a new writer does with the franchise.
