I hate writing about Stephenie Meyer’s work on the big-screen. After the tepid and sleep-inducing TWILIGHT SAGA, I feel I have nothing good to say about her stories. I’ve never read any of her books, so they may well be masterpieces, but the supernatural love triangle did not transfer well in the five film franchise. Maybe that is more to do with a cardboard cast and abysmal screenplays than Meyer’s novels. Fingers crossed THE HOST is on a higher level.
The sci-fi film is headlined by Saoirse Ronan as rare individual, Melanie Stryder, who is able to control the parasitic life-form that has taken over soul, after an alien invasion leaves most of the human race succumbing to their sinister plan. Here we have another crop of images from the film written and directed by IN TIME and GATTACA’s Andrew Niccol.
THE HOST hits cinemas 22nd March in the UK, followed by the 29th March for the US. It co-stars William Hurt, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook and Francis Fisher.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
