Company Qualcomm debuted an alternate trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM during a presentation at CES in Las Vegas. The trailer is fairly similar to the official release, but it does give us fans a few extra shots here and there. The tokusatsu inspired film sees the human race cancel the apocalypse by creating huge robots to fight off some pretty darn huge monsters. Being a fan of Japanese kaiju movies such as GODZILLA and GAMERA, and awesome shows such as ULTRAMAN, means I am highly excited for Del Toro’s latest, although I wish there was at least one robot/monster that was just a man in a suit. Another reason to be excited is that this is Del Toro’s first directorial offering in 5 years, with his last film being 2008’s HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY. All that prancing about with THE HOBBIT has kept him away for far too long.
PACIFIC RIM is released 12th July 2013. It stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day.
