If you’ve seen Andrés Muschietti’s short film MAMA, you’ll know just why the creepy footage caught visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s eye (you can watch here if you missed it with an introducton from del Toro). The HELLBOY and PANS LABYRINTH director (who produces) has since tapped Muschetti to direct a full-length feature, expanding on the unsettling story of two little girls paid a ‘visit’ by their devoted mother.
The film stars Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as a couple who take in the two troubled youngsters who disappeared for five years earlier along with their mother. The mystery of MAMA’s whereabouts and just who has been looking after the girls remains unknown but it soon becomes apparent maybe their mother has always been around…
Check out these first clips from the chilling horror set for cinemas 18th January in the US, followed by a UK release on the 22nd February.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
