Colourful Munchkins Appear In New Images From Raimi’s ‘Oz: The Great & Powerful’

More familiar to the cinematic world for his flawed heroic figures – boomstick-blasting or web-spinning – director Sam Raimi may have appeared to be a peculiar choice to helm a prequel to a family fantasy favourite. His upcoming OZ: THE GREAT & POWERFUL sees Harry Osborne himself, James Franco, headline the early adventures of author L. Frank Baum’s reluctant saviour of the Emerald City and its magical land of Oz.

Raimi has assembled an awesome supporting cast led by a trio of beauties in Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz (who has recently been hinting about her evil character) as warring witches Glenda, Theodora and Evanora. Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer, Tony Cox along with regulars Bruce Campbell and brother Ted also co-star.

Check out these new colourful images, the first to feature the iconic munchkins, who were so memorable in the original WIZARD OF OZ. The film hits cinemas 8th March.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
