Which Bond Best Bit Has Been Voted #1?

Goldfinger

Sky Movies recently set up a poll to see what the public thought was Bond’s Best Bit – and the results are in! According to the votes, the confrontation between Sean Connery’s Bond and Goldfinger (“No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die!”) was crowned #1 (with 10.3% of the votes).

Created to celebrate the return of the Bond-exclusive channel Sky Movies 007, the company asked 2,500 members of the public to vote for their favourite Bond moment. The run-down is set to be aired in a special programme – BOND’S GREATEST MOMENTS – which will be available on the channel and On Demand. Hosted by Alex Zane, the show will include contributions from the likes of Daniel Craig and Judi Dench, past Bond directors and celebrity fans.

Settling into second place is the pre-title moment from THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, which showed off Roger Moore skiing off the edge of an Austrian mountain, with him opening up a Union Jack parachute (7.6%). This beat out Connery’s first mutterings of the now-infamous line “Bond…James Bond” from DR. NO, with 5.7% of the votes.

Daniel Craig’s exciting parkour chase across a building site in CASINO ROYALE was named in fourth place in the poll (5.3%) ahead of THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN’s barrel roll car sequence, which saw Roger Moore’s Bond perform a daring car jump across a Bangkok river (4.5%).

Pierce Brosnan made his entry into the poll in sixth place with 3.3% for his tank chase through St. Petersburg in GOLDENEYE, which just beat Moore’s crocodile ‘stepping stone’ escape in LIVE AND LET DIE (2.8%).

The eighth most popular Bond scene was taken from QUANTUM OF SOLACE and featured Bond’s Aston Martin DBS race through the banks of Lake Garda (2.2%). This was closely followed by Desmond Llewellyn’s final scene as Q in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, where viewers saw him advise Brosnan to “pay attention 007” for the very last time (2%).

A sombre moment rounds off the top ten, courtesy of ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE and George Lazenby’s only turn as 007. Following a tumultuous relationship and just moments after marrying his bride Tracy (played by Diana Rigg), celebrations were cut short when Blofeld carried out a drive-by-shooting that killed her and left Bond grief-stricken (1.7%).

All of these moments (and more!) feature in BOND’S GREATEST MOMENTS on Sky Movies 007/HD and On Demand.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
