After being ever so coy to the press about if her character would be returning to the marvel franchise, Hayley Atwell revealed in an interview recently that she will not be reprising her role for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER.
In the first film, Atwell plays Peggy Carter, and was the female lead opposite Chris Evans. In AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, it is revealed that she is alive in the present day, so many people were expecting a carry on with the Steve/Penny storyline.
However, it does appear that CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER will be looking for a new female lead, with actresses like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Allison Brie and Anna Kendrick reportedly having auditioned for a role. Although it is still unconfirmed, internet rumours believe that the role is for Peggy Carter’s younger sister Sharon.
Will she be missed?
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER is expected to be released April 2014.
