If there is one film that certainly feels like it’s taking an eternity to arrive, it’s Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM – and we’ve still got 8 months to go! An age has passed since the project was first announced, with a ‘drip…drip…drip’ of information and promotional material. The director of DISTRICT 9, for me, is a mix already of intriguing and frustrating.Then again, it is refreshing to see an exciting project not being constantly thrown in your face.
The futuristic science-fiction thriller set in the year 2159 sees Matt Damon headline as a man who takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station, while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. The film will also reunite Blomkamp and his brilliant DISTRICT 9 lead Sharlto Copley and here is the first image of Copley’s character coming via Empire.
Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and Diego Luna co-star in the film set for cinemas in the US on the 9th August 2013 and the UK on the 20th September.
