Ryan Gosling has given up stunt driving cars and being a getaway driver, and now prefers daredevil riding bikes and robbing banks in this first trailer for THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES. The film focuses on Gosling as Luke (cool name) a burnout who decides to rob banks to support his son, meanwhile rookie cop (Bradley Cooper) is also looking to make his way in the world and do the right thing. This seems like a small town version of HEAT, with both characters clearly looking to collide. The film has received generally positive reviews after playing the festival circuit and it reunites Gosling with his BLUE VALENTINE director Derek Cianfrance.
The trailer packs a punch in terms of action and emotions, with some clearly stunning performances from both Gosling and Cooper. This could very well be next year’s DRIVE.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

This is the first I’ve heard about this film. Anything with Gosling is in always exciting at the moment and similarities to Heat can never be a bad thing!
