Jon Voight To Star As Russian KGB Agent In ‘Reagan’ Biopic?

Ronald Reagan looks to return to the big screen several times over the course of the upcoming years…as a character…not speaking about a zombie Reagan, although that would be cool. Michael Douglas is set to star as Ronald Reagan opposite Christoph Waltz in Mike Newell’s REYKJAVIK, while Alan Rickman will star as Reagan in Lee Daniels’ THE BUTLER. There’s a third film in development simply called REAGAN which will be written by Jonas McCord (THE BODY) and Howard Klausner (SPACE COWBOYS). It is at this point unclear who will direct the project or star in the title role, but it appears that Reagan has found his adversary.

Jon Voight (DELIVERANCE, HEAT, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) is in negotiations to join the film as a retired KGB agent who used to keep tabs on Ronald Reagan when he was president. The film is framed by ‘a young Russian leader visiting a retired agent named Viktor (Voight) so that he may learn of the demise of the Soviet Union’.

Personally, I don’t think this will be any good. Jon Voight has been in some good things but lately he seems to star in mainly stuff like BRATZ: THE MOVIE, or  BABY GENIUSES 5. This sounds like a Lifetime TV film, but who knows, if they get someone good on board to direct and to star, then it might still turn out okay. I just sincerely doubt it…although if Voight puts on an accent like in ANACONDA, it might be worth it just for that.
