Bryan Singer Confirms Wolverine Will Return For ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’

Bryan Singer was an assured first choice to return to the directors chair for the X-MEN: FIRST CLASS sequel DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, following the departure of Matthew Vaughn. He quickly added franchise regulars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, alongside expected returnees James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence. We also heard rumours Hugh Jackman was in talks to reprise his adamantium-clawed role as angry Logan (who, coincidentally, will star in the James Mangold-directed spin-off THE WOLVERINE, next year), whose small cameo in Vaughn’s comic-book prequel was an awesome standout.

Now we can announce, coming via Bryan Singer’s Twitter account, that Jackman is indeed back onboard for his latest X-MEN effort, that will see our super-powered mutant heroes encounter time-travel. The 1981 Marvel comic-book plot is an acclaimed story arc that came from fan favourites Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The character of Kitty Pryde features strongly in the story, so it will be interesting to see if Ellen Page returns after portraying the character in Brett Ratner’s much-malaigned THE LAST STAND. Check out Singer’s tweet below:

‘I would officially like to welcome @RealHughJackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited! More to come…’

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will shoot early next year for a release slated for 18th July 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
