P2 director Franck Khalfoun is the man behind the modern day remake of William Lustig’s 1980 exploitation classic MANIAC. The original film (written by and starring the late, great Joe Spinell), told of demented Frank and his horrific killing spree on the streets of New York City, following years of childhood abuse. Elijah Wood takes over Spinell’s twisted role in a new script penned by horror remake masters Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur.
Check out this four minute international featurette (in English with French subtitles) taking us behind-the-scenes of the (re)making of a murderous masterpiece, which includes a look at the new chilling POV-style scalpings.
MANIAC co-stars America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Megan Duffy, Morgane Slemp, Sal Landi and Sammi Rotibi. The film is slated for cinemas in the UK from the 15th March 2013, while a US release is still to be arranged.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
