gangster squad fcGANGSTER SQUAD – Paul Leiberman

Based on his hugely popular Los Angeles Times column ‘LA NOIR: TALES FROM THE GANGSTER SQUAD’, this is the true story of a brutal secret police team operating in 1950s Los Angeles. It has inspired the major new star packed movie of the same name, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The film is released on January 11th.

The award-winning book that inspired the film starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Laurence and Robert DeNiro. The heart-warming, affecting tale of Pat People’s, who after a stint in a mental institution, tries to regain control of his life through staying fit and always looking for the silver lining. When he meets equally troubled Tiffany, he finds things don’t always go quite to plan! The film is looking likely to be a favourite at the Academy Awards, with rave reviews across the board.

PrintRUST AND BONE – Craig Davidson

The collection of short stories that formed the basis for the film of the same name, starring Marion Cotillard. This book is outstanding – and  particularly interesting in that the film takes two characters from two stories who never meet in the book, bringing them together to form a deeply stirring, powerful and uplifting love story. Davidson’s world is dark and brutal, but with an edge of humanity and vulnerability that really sets his writing apart

David Cronenberg’s masterpiece, featuring an exceptional performance from Robert Pattinson, is released on DVD and Blu-ray this November. The 2003 novel of that inspired the book is a brilliant read and a great introduction to Don DeLillo, one of America’s greatest contemporary writers. This is the story of a day in the life of multi-billionaire asset manager Eric Packer. As his limousine weaves through Manhattan, his world starts to fall apart.
