Rare ‘Metropolis’ Poster Hits $1.2 Million At Memorabilia Auction!

Metropolis

If you can spend $1.2 million on posters, you know you’ve got too much money! Yes, collector and dealer Ralph DeLuca has purchased a selection of eight movie posters, including a very rare advertisement for the 1927 epic METROPOLIS.

The auction took place at the U.S Bankruptcy Court in LA, where memorabilia was bundled together and went up for sale. DeLuca went head-to-head with UK collector Andrew Cohen who – ironically enough – had previously owned the METROPOLIS poster. DeLuca splashed the cash and ended up with a set that included adverts for the original KING KONG, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, THE INVISIBLE MAN and an original JAILHOUSE ROCK painting.

Post-auction madness, DeLuca said he was ‘pleased with the result’ – and he bloody well should be, considering there are only 4 original METROPOLIS posters in existence (one owned by TITANIC star Leonardo DiCaprio)!

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
