‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Storms Critics Awards

Academy Award favourites were unleashed last night at the Critics Awards as Kathryn Bigelow’s ZERO DARK THIRTY collected Best Picture both at New York and Chicago’s inaugural ceremonies. New York also honoured screenwriter Mark Boal for Best Screenplay. Los Angeles, on the other hand, made a different cut and stirred a little more Oscars debate when they asserted Michael Haneke’s AMOUR as their own Best Picture.

Daniel Day-Lewis’ title role in Spielberg’s LINCOLN stepped down to make way for Joaquin Phoenix’s role in THE MASTER for the Best Actor gong. Amy Adams for Supporting Actress and Paul Thomas Anderson for Director managed to swipe even more victories for THE MASTER.

AMOUR’s Emmanuelle Riva cleared all three Critics’ boards deservedly for her astonishing performance, except in LA where she shares a tie with SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK’s Jennifer Lawrence. Daniel Day-Lewis received two Acting gongs for his playing of Abraham LINCOLN. A full list of the prizewinners are shown below:
