Cumberbatch’s Villain Name Revealed In Still From ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’?

I was one of the few film fans that thought I’d missed a gem when J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK reboot came and went at the cinema in 2009. Everyone kept hounding me to make sure I caught the sci-fi film and when I did on DVD, I wasn’t blown away. In all honesty, I’m not a Trekkie despite growing up watching a few of the films with Shatner and the like. I couldn’t tell your Klingons from your, well, non-Klingons but I was impressed by the recent trailer for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, so there’s hope in turning me yet!

We have a brand new still from the film featuring Chris Pine’s Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock and Benedict Cumberbatch’s mystery villain… John Harrison? Yes, apparently that’s the name that came via Paramount Pictures. If you have any clue who he is you’re a better man than I, but many of us still suspect that Paramount are teasing fans and that name is still masking his real identity. Could be Khan after all (certainly the only bloody villain I remember). Let us know your thoughts…

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will beam into cinemas 17th May 2013. Hopefully we can set our hopes on ‘stun’?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

I still think it’s Gary Mitchell and this ‘John Harrison’ is either a decoy name or Gary’s been given a new name for the reboot. Gary was in Starfleet and a close friend of Kirk’s so it all does make sense!
