We’ve already had the disturbing life of Albert DeSalvo brought to the big-screen by Tony Curtis in Richard Fleisher’s 1968 fascinating fact-based thriller THE BOSTON STRANGLER. Well, fact-based may be stretching it as it’s since been discovered via DNA, that as much of a vile cretin DeSalvo was, he could not have been responsible for a many of the murders in the infamous case. It’s even more bizarre that the inmate he confessed to, George Nassar, is considered to be the likely suspect.
Now we’re about to see Casey Affleck take on a role (although not thought to be DaSalvo) based on the case of the pathological liar, rapist and publicity hunting nut-job as well as serving as producer. Chuck MacLean is the man behind the screenplay that will give the perspective from ‘an ambitious detective who is willing to risk career and life in a race to bring down the most notorious sexual predator of the day, while battling a political cover-up by corrupt politicians and lawyers trying to save their careers.’ Possibly the point of view of Henry Fonda’s character in the gripping original film. Warner Bros. have been quick to snap this one up.
Sounds intriguing and if it’s as exciting as David Fincher’s obsessive masterpiece ZODIAC – I’m in!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
