Top of the Black List for 2011, THE IMITATION GAME, a story that follows the life of World War II Enigma Code cracker and genius British mathematician Alan Turing, has confirmed its brand new director. The script, written by first-time screenwriter Graham Moore, has been handed to HEADHUNTERS visionary Morten Tyldum, who will direct the picture under Black Bear Pictures in conjunction with Ampersand Pictures. The initial premise for the movie was to star one Leonardo DiCaprio, but unfortunately he has dropped out.
Despite being one of the heroes responsible for bringing down Hitler, Turing’s reception was far from heralded after he was prosecuted for being gay. Vying for chemical castration instead of imprisonment, Turing later sank into depression before fatally poisoning himself with cyanide.
Much more the buzz at the moment, this time last year screenwriter Moore picked up THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY on behalf of DiCaprio’s company Appian Way, a project that Leonardo himself will be starring in. More news on either film as it comes…
