Three Actresses Up For Losing A Glass Slipper In Mark Romanek’s ‘Cinderella’

Live action adaptations of old fairy tales have been all the rage these last few years from RED RIDING HOOD to HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, and it is only the beginning as Disney is entering the battle with both a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ adaptation told from the villain’s point of view in MALEFICENT, starring Angelina Jolie, and then Mark Romanek’s CINDERELLA which recently cast Cate Blanchett in the role of the evil-stepmother.

But no film can be made without it’s protagonist and there are reportedly three people up for the iconic title role, Saoirse Ronan (THE HOST, HANNA, ATONEMENT), Alicia Vikander (A ROYAL AFFAIR, ANNA KARENINA, THE SEVENTH SON) and Gabriella Wilde (THE THREE MUSKETEERS, CARRIE). These are three very different actresses with various amount of big film experience. On one hand we have Saoirse Ronan who has been a Hollywood stalwart since she was 13, then we have Alicia Vikander who has gotten a lot of attention due to especially her role in A ROYAL AFFAIR, and finally we have Gabriella Wilde who while having starred in some big things has flied relatively under the radar.

If it ends up being one of these three, I imagine it would be Alicia Vikander who seems to be offered pretty much anything in her age group. Ronan seems to have a full plate so I’d rank her as the mos unlikely. But who do you think will get cast? Let us know in the comments below!

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.

If Saoirse Ronan were to do a fairytale character, then ‘The Little Mermaid’ would be a much meatier role than ‘Cinderella’, especially as her ‘Hanna’ and ‘Atonement’ director Joe Wright has been planning to film his own version of the story.
