Joss Whedon has assembled the Avengers and now he’s set to tackle the Bard’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.
According to a recent press release, writer-director Whedon’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedic masterpiece is slated for a 7 June 2013 release in North America. International release dates have yet to be announced.
It will be interesting to see how well this project fares considering it’s set to drop in theatres right in the midst of prime blockbuster season. Whether or not it can hold up against superhero adventures and franchise sequels remains to be seen, although audiences may crave a distraction from the usual summer thrills.
This latest interpretation of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is a modern retelling of the classic play that delves into the romantic lives of two sets of couples. Filmed in a mere 12 days, the adaptation stars two Whedon alums: Nathan Fillion (FIREFLY) and Alexis Denisof (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER).
Considering it’s always a mistake to underestimate the devout loyalty of Whedonites, the film may become the sleeper hit of the summer. Whedonites assemble!
