US network A&E will soon unleash their modern-day prequel series to Alfred Hitchcock’s 60s-set slasher PSYCHO, entitled naturally, BATES MOTEL. The series will document the early torment of teenager Norman Bates and his ascent to become the demented, cross-dressing killer we all know (and lets be honest, love). Freddie Highmore seems to be a great choice for the rising young psychopath (looking a dead-ringer for Anthony Perkins) with the always-terrific Vera Farmiga as his mother.
Check out these two rather unsettling promo teasers, stills and character images for the series set to air early next year.
BATES MOTEL will also co-star Nestor Carbonell (THE DARK KNIGHT) Keegan Connor Tracey (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), Max Thieriot (HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET), Olivia Cooke (THE QUIET ONES), and Mike Vogel (CLOVERFIELD) with an obvious official synopsis that goes as follows:-
BATES MOTEL serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, PSYCHO and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years and just how deeply intricate his relationship to his mother, Norma, truly is.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
