We all love a good gangster epic, right? Whether it’s a black and white (heat) Cagney classic, the visceral violence of Scorcese, the grandeur of a DePalma period piece or the brutality of a East End brit flick, mobsters, more often than not, make for gripping viewing. We here at THN are eager to see Ruben Fleischer’s flashy, stylistic approach with fact-based all-star ensemble GANGSTER SQUAD. The latest in a long line from the fascinating sub-genre.
The film will see Nick Nolte’s Police Chief assemble an ‘off-the-book’ team of fearless law enforcers to take back the City Of Angels from Sean Penn’s ruthless crime boss, Mickey Cohen. Check out this brilliant featurette for the film co-staring a breathless cast of Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena, Mireille Enos, Frank Grillo and Sullivan Stapleton.
GANGSTER SQUAD hits cinemas from the 11th January 2013

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
