Ben Mendelsohn Joins Gosling’s Directorial Debut ‘How To Catch A Monster’

He has been a supporting player since his move to Hollywood with roles in KILLER ELITE, TRESPASS and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES but intense Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn deserves so much more after impressing with his devastatingly chilling character ‘Pope’ in ANIMAL KINGDOM. He gave another terrific turn recently in Andrew Dominik’s politically-charged gangster thriller KILLING THEM SOFTLY (released this Friday in the US), opposite Brad Pitt and Scoot McNairy and now he’s off to another dark place with Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER.

Mendelsohn, who is also part of the cast for Gosling-led crime-thriller THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, will co-star with MAD MEN and DRIVE’s Christina Hendricks who’ll take the lead of Billy. The plot centres around her as a single mother, who along with her teen son, discovers a mysterious underwater city where they must solve a puzzle to stay alive. There’s no word yet on which role Mendelsohn will take but we’ll keep you posted on those developments, as well as other casting confirmations.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
