Laura Linney is reportedly in talks to join Dreamworks’ untitled WikiLeaks/Julian Assange biopic in an unspecified role. Benedict Cumberbatch has already signed on to play Assange himself, and if that isn’t exciting enough, then James McAvoy is rumoured to be circling another central role of Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the writer of ‘Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website’ which is one of the books that the film is based on. Domscheit-Berg used to be a spokesperson for WikiLeaks until leaving in 2011 after growing disillusioned with the company.
I think this is a good addition to the film, Linney is an underrated actress, and it sounds like it could be a good film in the vein of THE SOCIAL NETWORK. There’s no director attached at the moment, and could obviously have a huge bearing in where this is going to land quality wise, but with Cumberbatch and possibly Linney and McAvoy involved, this is off to a good start.
Laura Linney can next up be seen in HYDE PARK ON HUDSON and it’s directed by Roger Michell. It stars Bill Murray, Laura Linney, Olivia Colman, Samuel West, and Olivia Williams. It will arrive in US cinemas on 7th December 2012, followed up by a UK cinematic release on 1st February 2013.
