Snyder Speaks Superman (Plus ‘Man Of Steel’ Trailer Confirmed To Play Before ‘The Hobbit’)

Director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot MAN OF STEEL had most of us superhero fans extremely excited, after those dual-voiced teaser clips that first came via Christopher Nolan’s Bat conclusion THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. With Nolan producing this new, more-serious take on the classic intergalactic comic-book fave, hopes have been well and truly raised. Snyder’s films are often visually-stunning pieces but not always perfect in a storytelling sense (yes, I’m looking at you SUCKER PUNCH). Still, he’s a competent director whose remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD was an impressive debut before his more critical and commercial hits, 300 and WATCHMEN.

Snyder has gathered an awesome supporting cast of Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne, accompanied by the excellent Michael Shannon who has taken on the role of General Zod, the thorn in the side of Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent. The director has now confirmed the first full trailer will arrive alongside Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.

‘It’s fun. I can’t wait for THE HOBBIT so it will be fun to see our crazy MAN OF STEEL trailer and then enjoy THE HOBBIT because that’s going to be great. It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action.’

He also hinted at the ‘serious’ tone of the film:

‘I was just incredibly fortunate to play with those guys who really were giving all they had to bring a level of commitment to the scenes they have together so that audiences will get an opportunity to really have their heroes taken seriously. As serious as I was taking it, and I don’t mean that from a depressing kind of way but from a, ‘This is important and fun and needs to be given the respect that it deserves,’ from that perspective it was so exciting to watch them drink the Kool-Aid of that concept and go all the way. I’m super psyched. It’s really fun. I have no superhero fatigue.’

MAN OF STEEL is slated for release from 14th June 2013

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
