Billy Crystal’s ‘Parental Guidance’ Gives Us Another Trailer

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. I wasn’t very nice upon the release of the last trailer for this comedy starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, but can a new trailer change my mind? No. No it can’t. Still flogging dated humour about how old people do this and young people do that, it really is a comedy written by someone who may very well be observant, but fails to choose their moments. If a stand up comic does a 10 minute routine on these kinds of observations then that’s fine, but I doubt it can be stretched out over the course of an entire film. If the best bits truly are in the trailer, then this film is in big trouble. And adding music from HOME ALONE, along with some snow effects over the titles on a red background, does not convince me this is a Christmas film.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE is released 25th December in the US and 26th December in the UK. It stars Billy Crystal, Bette Midler, Marisa Tomei, and Tom Everett Scott.
