The Weinstein Company have purchased the rights to Michael Gates Gill’s 2007 memoir, “How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns to Live Like Everyone Else.”
Centred around the author’s personal account of how he lost his job as an ad executive and had to resort to working hourly shifts at Starbucks to make ends meet, the seemingly-thin premise may leave film enthusiasts scratching their heads. However, an adaptation of the critically acclaimed memoir has actually been in the works for awhile.
Director Gus Van Sant was originally attached to direct Tom Hanks in the lead role, but both abandoned the project when original owner Universal passed the rights on to Weinstein. Although little else is known about the project, it would appear that the Weinstein adaptation will finally help them Espresso themselves…
