Boy, do the New Zealanders like themselves some Tolkien and with good reason, when you consider the amount of money that the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy has made them in tourism. Last month they installed a giant Gollum in Wellington Airport, and then a few days later they installed a row of Dwarf silhouettes at the top of the New Zealand Post’s office building. With the premiere date getting ever closer, the theatre that will house the premiere has now received a decoration of its own.
‘The Embassy’ will hold the world premiere of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in just 9 days on 28th November and to commemorate the event, they have build a huge Gandalf statue and a Hobbit door over the entrance. I think this looks bloody cool and I love the fact that the entire country is this much into the return to Middle-Earth. Check out the pictures yourself below where you can also see a picture of the world’s coolest baggage claim from Wellington Airport.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is directed by Peter Jackson. It stars Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving. It opens in UK cinemas on 13th December 2012 and in US cinemas the day after on 14th December 2012.
