‘Fright Night Part 2’ Synopsis Sounds Frightfully Familiar & First Casting Confirmed

A week or so ago, we brought you the first news that a sequel to last year’s Craig Gillespie-directed remake of Tom Holland’s 80s cult horror FRIGHT NIGHT, had been given the go ahead – but set to go direct-to-DVD. We have the new official plot synopsis, as well as the first actor to sign on for more fang-tastic bloodthirsty antics that appear to sound all too familiar…

When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend “Evil” Ed and ex-girlfriend Amy in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show “Fright Night,” to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who’s blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire.

So basically the same premise as the recent updated remake starring Colin Farrell as lead bloodsucker Jerry (this time Gerri and female), albeit set on foreign soil. Already on-board is raven-haired Brit beauty, Jamie Murray, familiar for roles in BBC series HUSTLE, DEXTER and SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA, who’ll take that role of sexy professor-turned-vicious vamp Gerri.

The synopsis suggests the four main characters are set to return (as played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots and David Tennant), but I’ve a feeling none of the actors will be too pleased at coming back for a DVD title with a fraction of the budget. Expect some, if not all those roles to be undoubtedly recast.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
