The battle for TWILIGHT’s crown is now heavily underway, as that franchise will push its final installment into cinemas today. Yesterday we showed the trailer for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, and now we have another trailer that wants a piece of the action. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES is based on a young adult novel, and sees a small southern family of witches (although they prefer the term ‘Casters’), one of whom is about to turn 16, which means her powers will be claimed by the light or the dark. She can remain on the lightside if she stays focuses, but UH-OH she’s only gone and fallen in love. Silly teenagers. Which side will it be? I’m hoping for the dark.
The film doesn’t look anything special, but by casting some respected thespians such as Emma Thompson and Jeremy Irons I am a little intrigued. But then I remember Jeremy Irons was in DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS and I die a little inside. The music, colour palette, dialogue, all sounds reminiscent of teen based supernatural romances that have come before.
BEAUTIFUL CREATURES hits cinemas on both sides of the Atlantic on 13th February 2013. It stars Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Viola Davis, Thomas Mann, Kyle Gallner, Alice Englert, and Zoey Deutch.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
