Early word on SAW and INSIDIOUS director James Wan’s 70s-set supernatural thriller THE CONJURING has been pretty strong after screening at a number of festivals. The film is based on the true-life married paranormal investigative couple, Lorraine and Ed Warren, who made a living supposedly chasing demonic spirits from victims homes. I’m not a believer in such things but that doesn’t stop us enjoying a good old-fashioned fright film, with this particular effort based on one of their most infamous (bullshit) cases.
The film reunites Wan with his INSIDIOUS lead Patrick Wilson who, along with Vera Farmiga, will portray the ghostbusting couple. Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor take the roles of petrified parents needing to rid their Rhode Island farmhouse of their otherworldly guests.
Check out these first stills from the film which is due in US cinemas on the 19th July 2013.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
