Tom Hardy Confirmed For ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’

Following the recent announcement that Michael Fassbender would headline a big-screen adaptation of Ubisoft video-game ASSASSSINS CREED, the company have been quick to put plans into motion to get their SPLINTER CELL picture off the ground. We can now confirm after months of speculation that Tom Hardy is now officially onboard as the mysterious government agent Sam Fisher, created by author Tom Clancy for the best-selling video-game franchise.

A script has be doing the rounds by THE INTERNATIONAL screenwriter Eric Singer but Ubisoft will look to retain a majority of control over creative development while they pitch the project to prospective studios. Meetings have already taken place with Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures but with hot property Hardy now confirmed, expect a deal to be done very soon to finance and distribute with other studios wanting in on the action.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet had to say of the breaking developments:

Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills. His involvement in the ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ movie is exciting news for movie and video-game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and … we’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story … while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans.

What do you think about Hardy’s involvement in the prospective film and is he the right man for the role?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
