Joss Whedon’s much-anticipated upcoming television show based around Marvel’s secret government organisation S.H.I.E.L.D., is fast taking shape. Following the announcement that Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson is to be resurrected and former ER actress Ming-Na is to take the lead of Melinda May, we have another two names to add to the cast.
Young Scot and former CORONATION STREET actor Iain De Caestecker has been cast as Agent Leo Fitz, while Brit stunner Elizabeth Henstridge (last seen with very little on in gory bloodsucker sequel, THE THOMPSONS) will play Agent Gemma Simmons. The characters are described as follows:
These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.
Joss Whedon will direct the pilot episode for network ABC to be shown later next year and will also return to THE AVENGERS sequel due summer 2015.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
