Alexander Skarsgard Set To Swing In David Yates’ ‘Tarzan Of The Apes’

A few days ago we brought you news that a few names were in the frame to take the role of jungle-dwelling King Of The Apes, TARZAN in a new take on Edgar Rice Burrough’s iconic character. Warner Bros. are the studio behind this latest vision of the young boy left to live and grow up amongst the chimps, with four-time HARRY POTTER directer David Yates the man tasked with giving us the familiar tale to a new generation.

Well it appears Alexander Skarsgard has beaten off competition from Charlie Hunnam and Henry Cavill to land the coveted role, and was said to be Yates preferred choice. Another name being bandied about and rumoured to be Warners’ first choice was Tom Hardy, but was said to not interested. Skarsgard is best known for his role in HBO’s vampire series TRUE BLOOD and was last seen on the big-screen in Peter Berg’s abysmal BATTLESHIP and Rod Lurie’s remake of STRAW DOGS.

No confirmation has been announced but expect one soon. There is word Samuel L. Jackson is also being lined up for the supporting-role of ex-mercenary George Washington Williams in the film set to roll before cameras later next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
