In what could be seen as a surprise move, James Wan (SAW, INSIDIOUS) looks set to take the helm of the long mooted MACGYVER film. While being famous for his horror films, Wan has been attracted to the New Line Cinema backed adaptation of the 80s TV show starring Richard Dean Anderson as the eponymous MacGyver who was famous for being able to make life saving gadgets out of everyday items.
James Wan has made a name for himself in being able to ‘MacGyver’ often very good results out of very little money (see what I did there?), so it might indicate that they’re not looking to make this with a very big budget. Personally I love MACGYVER and I used to watch it quite a bit when I was younger, but the prospect of a MACGYVER film is a little puzzling because I’m just not sure if people would watch it, but I guess with a lower budget they might make it work.
